My last entry for 2007

I had a blast at the 30th Reunion. It was good to see Vonnie, Janet,
Mario, Scott, Darrell, Tom W., Tom G., Dawn, Kris M., Kris N., Diane, Margaret, Jeanne, Joel, Robin, Melinda, Kerry, on and on. I hope it's not another 10 years until we see each other. My newest Reseda friend Deborah said it best: "I'm glad I went to Reseda".
Extra Special thanks to everyone who helped out.
Keep in touch via this blog. If your contact info changes, send an email to reseda1977@yahoo.com. I encourage you to get together in small groups. Our next big event will be a 50th Birthday Bash in 2009. Have a safe and prosperous 2008!!!
Peace, Daniel Shudo. www.reseda1977.com

Meeting Minutes of the Reseda 1977 Reunion and 50th B-Day Bash

Meeting Minutes of the Reseda 1977 Reunion and 50th B-Day Bash
Date: October 28, 2007
Location: Tony P’s Dockside Grill
Marina Del Rey
Attendance: Dona, Debbie, Kelly, Tammy, Dan, Michael and Glenn
Discussion:

1. Recap of the Reunion.
Discussion over the comments received from classmates and further discussion of everyone’s personal observations. The group concluded that judging from comments received and personal observations: (1) everyone attending looked better at the 30th than at the 20th or even the 10th year reunion; (2) everyone seemed to have more fun at the 30th; (3) the reception room was too small, and (4) The Reunion Committee, for the most part, did a very good job.

2. 50th B-Day Bash:
After reviewing the ballots cast on line and via ballot at the reunion, it was determined that our classmates overwhelming voted for having a 50th B-Day Bash in Las Vegas. After some discussion the group focused in on the logistical challenges posed by this choice. Some of the challenges discussed were lodging, meeting places and selecting one location to meet. Although Roger had mentioned several weeks ago knowing a restaurant in the Vegas area that could be a meeting place, the group discussion went further to discuss where and what we could do following dinner. After a protracted discussion, it was determined that such an event would be difficult to manage and to keep the group together.
Another alternative was discussed. At the reunion, Janet Moshin offered the use of her family’s winery along the Russian River for the event. Glenn informed the group that in his conversations with Janet subsequent to the reunion that her family winery could hold about 60 to 80 people comfortably. If the group were larger, she would recommend reserving a church retreat down the road from the winery to hold the event and even house some of our classmates. Glenn informed the group that the winery and the retreat are located between Santa Rosa and Healdsburg in the mountains west of the 101. The group generally liked the idea. Even though this was not one of the events or locations chosen by our classmates at the reunion, the group decided to take a more detailed look into this event and location since the offer was made after the class vote.
After all was said and done, the group decided as follows: (1) we will look into three ideas/locations (a) Moshin Vineyards/retreat, (b) a local location such as a hanger at Van Nuys Airport, and (c) Las Vegas. Tammy agreed to look into the local hanger idea and Glenn agreed to call and work with Janet to develop costs for the wine country trip. Vegas will be Vegas and we will discuss this at the next meeting.
The group decided to call another meeting mid January to early February to compare notes and costs of each alternative. The meeting will be held in the Valley so we can hopefully include more classmates to participate in the planning of this event.

Steve Hynds, came from Missouri

"I would like to thank everyone on the reunion committee for putting on such a wonderful event. I was not excited about making the trip from Missouri as I have not seen anyone from our class in many, many years. Then after seeing the videos and pictures of the reunion committee on the website, especially Debbie and Kelly, I decided to come. I am very glad I did as the event exceeded my expectations.

It was so good to see everyone that I am still excited about the trip a week later. My only regret is not having the chance to see and talk with everyone. I guess one can only do so much in one night. My son was looking at the 1977 yearbook two weeks ago and remarked about how much hair we all had back then. It appears that might be the only thing besides my waistline which has changed over the years. It’s remarkable how friendships can pick up again after so long. I hope I do not have to wait until the 40 year reunion to see everyone again. I might even make it out for the 50th birthday party if you do not mind having a 49 year kid in attendance.

Take care and hello again from Springfield, Missouri.

Steve Hynds"

Reunion Video

Message from Steven Brandt

Hi to all,

This is Steven Brandt your 1977 Reseda High Classmate. I was not on the Aug 30th list of who will be attending the reunion. At the reunion my name should have been on the list as I payed the Tuesday before but I did not show .
This is due to a very Unfortunate Event just North of the Agriculture Stop on I-15 in Yermo, Ca. If you have ever been to Vegas then you know the place. I exsperenced a Catastrofic Engine Failure in my Car. I was 4 1/2 Hours out of my home for the Last 21 Years of St George, Utah. It was a Surreal Moment for me. At 2:30 Pm on 9/8, About 80mph with a lot of good thoughts in my head (I did attend the 10th and 20th Reunions) The Music was Playing and I felt a sudden loss of power. I turned down the Music, Pressed down on the accelerator pedal and then I heard a Metalic Grind and a BIG BANG!!! That was it for my engine................ It was not Hot, Full of Coolant and Oil, It Just Came Apart. As I coasted over to the sholder of the road I became to realise The Reunion is over for me, Then the Male Problem solving kicked in......... I'll Take the Bus, Hitch Hike, What ever...................

After stopping I looked at my Cell (A Pocket PC) and it showed NO SERVICE, Dang. It was 101* outside and I was at Mile Marker 101. Well then........ I'm walking. I locked up the car and with my Bottle of water in hand off I went. I tried to catch a ride but no one would stop to help...... Just Honk as they drove by. I checked my Phone again and realised it was in "Flight Mode". It's a UT Starcom and has a habit of doing this by it's self. I was able to get ahold of my Father and told him of my delema. At first he thought I was Pulling his Leg. I do like to joke around but this was no joking matter. He would get our 16ft Car Trailer and his 1 Ton GMC Dooley and come and Pluck me from the Desert. LOLOL............. Thank God For Family. Back to the Car I went........... It was 3 Hours before a CHP came. He gave me a bottle of Water and a ride to the next exit to a place called "Jeremy's Trading Post". It was like being at a Tijuana south of the border Store. I was thankful for t!
he Swamp Cooler and Kirkland Water they had to offer. My Dad, Mom and 2 Boys came for the Rescue Road Trip. We loaded the car by pushing it to get momentum and up the Ramps it went. It was a little crooked but it was better than on the side of I-15. As I Strapped the Car Down I looked at the time, It was 7:30 Pm Mountain Time which is 6:30 Pm Pacific Time. It was Cocktail Time at the Reunion...................

I hope you all had a Great Time and even though I was not there Physically My Heart was there with you all. Family and Friends, That is what life is all about. You all Take Care and if you ever make it to Sunny St George then Look Me up. I can show you around.

If you look on the Map in a 150 mile Radius of St George there is: Zions National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Canyon North rim, Grand Canyon Toroweep, Lake Powell Wahweep, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, Sand Hollow Hurricane Sand Dunes, Brian Head Ski Resort, Pine Mountain, Mesquite Nevada, Las Vegas Nevada and some of the BEST OFF ROADING in any direction I have ever seen just to name a few.

I'm home and I'm Safe, Hope to make the 40th!!!

Regards,
Steven Brandt

P.S. Please Forward this to any and all Friends and Classmates.

Reunion Thoughts

Diane Billie, Melinda Richman, Me, Kris Nobben, Robin Stark (yes, Reseda girls are very pretty)
REUNION DAY 9/8/07
Finally after a year of planning, the big day arrived.
I checked into the Sheraton around 3:30pm.
Went to the ballroom around 5pm to set up the displays.
Returned around 6:30pm to the Studio Ballroom.
Checked in, had our photos taken and started mingling.
We do not have a final count, but we think around 120 classmates and 50 guests showed up.
For the next 90 minutes, we took photos, drank, and chatted. It was packed in the reception area, kinda warm.
Everyone was dressed well.
There was a lot of cleavage, no kidding, ask anyone who attended.
Around 8pm, we entered the dining room.
Glenn and Jon, gave welcoming speeches. (Jon you are the classic "halftime announcer").
We ate. I finally encountered the "jumbo cookies". They were not that big.
I will give it an "XL" at the most.
After dinner, we had a raffle, gifts were donated by Reseda Reunion Committee Members.
Wine, CD's, gift cards, gift baskets.
Nancy announced the questionnaire awards.
Some danced, more drinking, much photo taking. Our classmates had some nice cameras.
The reunion ended around 1am.

I had a real good time. After the reunion, I couldn't unwind, didn't sleep til 3am.
I am sorry that I did not get to speak with many of you.

THE DAY AFTER.

I met Kris, Diane, Karen, Ray, Trish, and Ron for breakfast at the Sheraton. After many more goodbyes,
Ron and I headed to the Saddle Ranch Chop House at City Walk (part of Universal Studios) for the brunch.
Around 30 came.

Then, more goodbyes.

Classmates came from far, far, away: Hawaii, Washington State, Missouri, Florida, Nevada, Montana, Massachusetts, Arizona, Oregon, Colorado, Virginia, all over California.
For some classmates, it was their first Reseda Reunion.
The cool thing for me is meeting classmates who I did not know at Reseda.
Classmate occupations: doctor, attorney, motion picture industry, entrepreneur, beauty, executive, college professor, architect,
nursing, health care, transportation, landscape, winemaker.

Thanks everyone who attended and helped out.

Check my blogs once in while to see what is happening for the 50th Birthday Bash, sometime in 2009 (Yes, we know some of you skipped a grade, born in 1960, stop bragging)

Please send questions to reseda1977@yahoo.com (this mail box is checked by different classmates).

Send photos to me at reseda77@verizon.net, and try to ID who are pictured.

I will post reunion photos at www.reseda1977.com

Start your own blogs, myspace, etc. Most of them, like this blog, is FREE!!!! We can link them together. Ask anyone 13-22 years old how to "blog".

One of my newest Reseda friends, Deborah said it well, "I'm glad I went to Reseda"

Good night for now!!!

June 27 Meeting Minutes by Glenn Kurosaki

Meeting: June 27, 2007

Meeting Minutes

Attendance: Dona Rawson, Kelly Montgomery, Julie Riddell, Tammy Graf, Nancy Sellers, Daniel Shudo, Hugh MacNair, Jon Tsuchiyama, Randy Farber, Debbie Mollner, Michael Nikaido, Marietta Moyeda-Sperry and Glenn Kurosaki.

Meeting Site:Maguire Aviation, Van Nuys

A Big Thank You goes out to Tammy Graf and Maguire Aviation for making their office conference facilities available for our meeting.

Committee Reports:

1.After Reunion Brunch: Randy and Dan report that the Hotel does not currently host a Sunday brunch but they do serve breakfast that runs into lunch. It was also reported that the Universal Hilton located up the hill does have a Sunday brunch but it costs $30.00 plus. Randy also reports that Jerry’s Deli, which is located down the hill from the hotel, has a large enough room but will require a minimum number of people and a deposit.

The group decided to hold the after reunion brunch at the Universal Sheraton restaurant during the breakfast and early lunch hours. Randy will contact the hotel restaurant a few weeks before the reunion to inform them of our plans. We hope to have a portion of the restaurant, or the pool area, set aside for our group.

2.Trivia Sheet: Debbie and Dona have prepared a list of trivia questions for placement on the tables at the reunion. Some additional questions were developed at the meeting. Answers to the questions will be revealed at a time tbd.

3.Memorabilia: Tammy reports that she is in the process of freshening up the boards from the 20th reunion and her committee will be preparing several new ones. There should be between 10 to 15 boards.

4.Gifts: Josie was not present for the meeting, however, the group decided that each member will secure at least one gift to be given as door prizes.

5.Slide Show: Dan reports that he needs more photos.

General discussions:

Glenn reported that the Reunion Committee, Inc. (the “RC”) has revised their mailing list following the completion of their major research. The RC will be doing their next mailing within the next few weeks. (As an update, the RC has confirmed that it will be doing it next mailer the week of July 2nd.) Glenn next stated that there are still a number of classmates that have not been found. They are listed as missing persons on the Reunion Committee’s website. It was agreed that the group members take a look at the missing persons list and see if there are any persons who we can locate through our personal contacts.

Next, Dan prepared the room to shoot short video commercials advertising the reunion. The commercials can be seen at www.resedahighclassof1977.blogspot.com and at www.reseda1977.wordpress.com

The group decided upon the next two meeting dates. The next meeting will be on July 25, 2007 at 7:00 pm at Maguire Aviation located at 7155 Valjean Avenue, Van Nuys, CA. Committee heads should be prepared to show completion of most assignments.

Buzz the telcom at the gate and let the operator know that you are visiting Tammy.

The next meeting will be on August 15, 2007 at a place to be determined.

DEBBIE MOLLNER in the house.

Hello all you fellow 1977 Reseda Regent graduates:

It’s Debbie Mollner. Our 30 year reunion is quickly approaching, Saturday, Sept 8th,
and I am writing to convince you to attend. Whether you have attended the
past two reunions or not, we want to see your friendly face at this one.

We are trying to contact as many graduates as possible to get the best turnout ever.
The Reseda reunion committee (Dan Shudo, Glenn Kurosaki, Jon Tsuchiyama, Kelly Tyson,
Julie Lagerwall, Michael Nikado, Randy Farber, Marietta Moyeda, Josie Edmonds, Nancy
Sellers, Tammy Graf, Dona Bunzel, myself and others) have put in many hours of
preparation and planning to pack this reunion full of memories, fun and excitement.

We hope you can make it and if not, that you will get word out to any 1977 grads you still have
contact with to let them know about the reunion.

Personally, I have really enjoyed getting to know my fellow classmates again. Who knew Nancy
was so funny, that Jon wouldn’t age a bit, that Julie is Kelly’s hairstylist and that they are as crazy
as ever and still get together all the time, that Tammy works for a private jet company, that Dan Shudo takes pictures of the rich and famous and makes TV commercials, that Randy wears a UCLA Bruin tie every day, that Glenn and Michael are still so sweet and nice, that Josie’s dog would have so many puppies, that Marietta’s daughter would receive Runner of the Year from the Daily News and that Dona and I would live right around the corner from each other and still be best friends after 30 years.

I can’t wait to see Mitch Popham, Robin Stark, Rochelle Sager, Melinda Richman, Elaine Silverman, Diane Stein, Jeff Schneider, Terry Heckman, John Monypenny, Dave and Dean Culton, Lori Cowley, some of who I have talked to directly and others who I have heard have been contacted and hope will come on September 8th.

As for me, I am living in Westchester, CA (just a few minutes from LAX and around the corner from Dona) with my pitbull mix dog Miranda. I work in Torrance at Photo Sciences Inc. We are a micro-lithography company specializing in micro-imaging of glass and metal parts for the semi-conductor and related industries. I am the Director of Production, so I make sure orders flow through the shop and ship on time. I have been at PSI for about 8 years. Previously, I worked for a (crazy) Psychiatrist at Cedar Sinai for a year, was part owner of a 24 hour answering service in Beverly Hills for 9 years, and was customer service manager for Brink’s Armored Transport and Laidlaw Bus Company (formerly Associated Bus Company, the buses we rode to Grad Night in 30 years ago) for many years.

Anyway, enough about me. What have you been up to???
We’d really like to know so drop us a line at reseda1977@yahoo.com
Keep up with our blogs:
http://reseda1977.wordpress.com
http://resedahighclassof1977.blogspot.com
Go to the reunion website for more info: http://www.reunioncommittee.com
and most important, COME TO THE REUNION ON SEPTEMBER 8TH SO WE CAN CATCH UP IN PERSON!!!

We look forward to seeing you there.

FIGHT ON, USC.

March 7, 2007 Meeting Minutes

Minutes by Glenn.

Reseda High Class of 1977 30th Reunion Committee
Meeting Notes

Meeting:March 7, 2007 Meeting

Attendance: Nancy Sellers, Roger Ellison, Daniel Shudo, Kathee Boyer, Jill Locasio, Michael Nikaido, Tammy Graf, Jon Tsuchiyama, Marietta Moyeda Sperry, Josie Edmonds Montanari, Randy Farber and Glenn Kurosaki

Meeting Site: Farber Consulting, Woodland Hills

First, a big thank you must go out to Randy for hosting this meeting and catering a terrific taco dinner. Next time we need to mix margaritas to complete the deal! Thanks also goes out to Nancy for bringing Jon a birthday cake!

Side Note: This week, the group picked up Roger Ellison and Marietta Moyeda Sperry.

Discussion:

First: Mailing List. Everyone with changes or new addresses delivered such to Glenn. Our contractor, the Reunion Committee is currently working on the next mailer and they are working on finding missing classmates and are revising the mailing list.

Second: After Reunion Get Together. Just as the reunion committee sponsored a class picnic at Balboa Park after the 20th reunion, the group discussed holding an after reunion picnic/brunch on the Sunday following the reunion. Discussion followed. At the previous reunion meeting and after visiting the Sheraton Universal, the group inquired about having a group brunch at the Sheraton Universal’s hotel restaurant. After some discussion, the group began to focus on hosting a picnic, much in the same manner as the one after the 20th. Randy volunteered to investigate the cost, if any, and the procedure of reserving a picnic spot at several different Valley area parks. Randy will also contact the hotel restaurant for cost information of their Sunday brunch.

A committee was formed to assist Randy. Michael Nikaido volunteered to help as he may have some ability to contact the city parks and recreation department through his position with the DWP.

Third:Committees: Discussion followed on the need for the committees to start working. The discussions turned on what additional activities could be incorporated into the evening’s program and how to improve on the program from the 20th reunion. The group discussed holding the awards ceremony during dinner and keeping this activity short and within 5 to 10 minutes and limiting the award to certificates only to be delivered to the individual winner (as opposed to having the winner come up to the stage). The raffle prizes will be given out following the awards ceremony. The group also discussed a new activity, a Reseda High 1977 trivia game focusing on trivia from our senior year. It was decided that instead of doing a game format, the committee would assemble numerous trivia questions and print them on sheets to be placed on tables throughout the dining room. Answers to the trivia will be printed on the reverse side.

The following committees were formed:

Memorabilia:Tammy, Kelly and Jill Tammy to Chair

Gifts and Prizes:Roger, Josie, and Jon Josie to Chair

Awards:Nancy and Marietta Nancy to Chair

Senior Year Slide Show: Dan to Chair

Trivia Game/Cards:Maybe Dona and Debbie?

Master of Ceremony: Jon and Tammy

Reunion Picnic/Brunch: Randy and Michael Randy to Chair

The committee should be prepared to present a report during the next group meeting. Also, our contractor, the Reunion Committee should have an updated mailing list for our review by this next meeting.

Feb. 15, 2007 Meeting Minutes, by Glenn

Meeting Minutes for the February 15th, 2007 local reunion group, by Glenn Kurosaki.

Sheraton Universal

Attendance:

Julie Lagerwall Riddell, Dan Shudo, Tammy Graf, Kelly Tyson Montgomery, Randy Farber, Nancy Sellers, Jon Tsuchiyama, Michael Nikaido, and Glenn Kurosaki

The group was treated to a tour of the rooms where our reunion will be held. We were shown the Terrance Rooms adjacent to the pool and the Studio rooms. Both rooms were very nice.

Discussion:

Reunion Committee, Inc., (the “Company”)the company we hired to plan our reunion had sent copies of the proposed invitation, informational sheet, payment tear sheet and class questionnaire for review.

After reviewing the proposed documents, the invitation was approved, the informational sheet was approved subject to changing the font style to allow for easier reading, and the tear sheet was approved. The group rejected the proposed questionnaire and approved the use of the questionnaire prepared by the questionnaire committee headed by Nancy Sellers.

Glenn informed the group that the Company, had sent a first mailer to the addresses we provided to see how much of the list was still usable. The Company provided the local group with the results of their mailer and asked that the local group check for typos and for any addresses anyone knew was incorrect. It was agreed that a copy of the mailing list be distributed to the reunion group for review and to check for typos and known wrong addresses. Comments and revisions to the mailing list will be due by the next local committee meeting.

Glenn informed the group that the Company is now working on finding those people the first mailer did not hit.

The committee also discussed where to hold the after reunion gathering, traditionally held the morning after the reunion. The group inspected the Terrace Restaurant directly adjacent to the Terrace Room within the Sheraton Universal Hotel and locations up the hill with Univeral Studio’s City Walk. After learning that none of the restaurants within City Walk were large enough to house our group, the Group decided to investigate the Terrace Restaurant in greater detail. Randy Farber volunteered to check out the resturant’s Sunday Brunch and provide the group with his report. Several group members commented upon the convenience of having the after party there. A decision would be made at the next meeting of the local group.

The meeting adjourned with agreement that the next meeting take place within three weeks.

After looking at the calendar, Glenn unilaterally decided to select March 7, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. for the next meeting. The location for the meeting will be announced later but will be held within Encino, Tarzana, or Reseda. Stay tuned for more info.
